Unique Identification Authority of India | Aadhaar

Unique Identification Number ‘ / Aadhaar Project was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on 29th September, 2010. The project Aadharwas dedicated to the nation by distributing Unique Id to twelve scheduled caste people living in the village of Tembhali of the districts of Nandarbar, Maharastra. The village ‘Tembhali’ was declared as the ‘Aadhaar Gram of India’. Ninety five percent people of that village is scheduled caste.

The objective of the project ‘Aadhaar’ is to give identity at the national level to the all the people of India. By using this number, one can get online information of him from any where in the world. The brand of UID is ‘Aadhaar’. The Unique Identification Authority of India is a statutory organisation under the Planning Commission. Nandan Nilekani of Infosys, is the chairman of UID authority – the post is equivalent to a cabinet minister.

There are many people who can not avail the opportunity entitled for them by the Government as they do not possess any valid identity. The project ‘Aadhaar’ will help them considerably. Apart from personal information, biometric information will be used for this project.
